XP & Hyper-V

I like Hyper-V a lot. Runs as a service, can sync guest startups and shutdowns with the host, and on top of everything it’s free. Built into Windows, if you know where to look.

Windows’ Settings app crashing

What’s happening here is when you click “Update & security,‘ the first page automatically loads. This page is Windows Update. If you don’t let this page load fully before continuing, say to the Backup page for example, the application may/will crash. If you leave it open long enough even not on the tab, it won’t crash. […]

Symbolic Links

Apparently manipulating symbolic links in Windows is a very difficult task. Even though it’s literally just a shortcut, it’s impossible to simply copy the shortcut file. Attempting to completely locks up Windows Explorer’s file copy dialog. Nice job Microsoft

Reinstalling 10

Decided to make a system image before reinstalling, to make life easier. Windows decided to throw one last curve-ball. When preparing for the image, Windows decided to force include 1.5TB worth of partitions. That’s a bit much, when I only wanted my 250GB SSD. I had to use Disk Manager to remove the drive letters […]

RIP Windows 10 Build 11082, I hardly knew ya

Edit: Updated post to include copy dialog info. Forgot about it but did notice it. So things have been going pretty badly. This build is so utterly broken I can’t believe it was allowed in the first place. The first thing I noticed was that the taskbar no longer works properly. Right clicking icons on […]

Modern Apps & W10-11082

So I wanted to post feedback about the driver mishap, and apparently there’s an app called Windows Feedback. That’s great and really helpful, except it doesn’t load. It just sits on the title/splash screen forever. Then I found out that there’s an app called Insider Hub and figured that would be a better place to […]

W10-11082 & X-52

So one thing I did notice was that after the last upgrade, Windows had set my X-52’s LED’s to ON and the MFD to OFF. I thought it was odd, but didn’t think anything was off because the system still worked in-game. Today I decided that I wanted to turn the MFD back on, so […]

Windows 10 (Build 11082)

I went a bit lazy on the title, oh well. Windows 10 (finally) decided that YES, NOW IS THE TIME and let me install Windows Updates. For a couple weeks now it’s been saying that it would install them during the shutdown process, but that hasn’t actually worked. It would shut down and start up […]
